At Headliner, we are amazed at the wide array of unique acts who form our community. As far as interesting and endearing acts go, Shotgun Fakes do not disappoint. This charming duo perform upbeat and unique covers of popular songs and party anthems to keep everyone on their feet.
The pair truly won over our hearts after sharing their inspirational origin story. This tale is particularly special because not only are they a musical pair, but a romantic one too, getting their start after playing for guests at their own wedding!
Their story especially resonates with the team at Headliner, as two of our founders, Stan and Maria, share a similar journey of love and music. They envisioned Headliner after booking live entertainment for their own wedding and sought to use their experience to make the booking process easier for both artist and booker. And thus, Headliner was created – and the team couldn’t be happier!

Please tell us about your backstory. How did you form your duo?
We had been working together for several years in a previous band and it was while in that band that we fell in love! As a gift for the guests at our wedding, we did our first performance as ‘Shotgun Fakes’ – although we didn’t know that at the time! We had some people ask us to come and perform at their weddings after seeing us play at ours, and the rest is history.
We think it’s wonderful that the two of you are married. Do you think your partnership offers a more unique experience for your clients?
We understand the importance of a wedding and how crucial it is for each event to feel unique and true to the bride and groom’s personalities. We respect each part of the day’s festivities and always work closely with couples to make sure they get exactly what they hope for on their special day. Whether it requires learning specific songs for a first dance, walking down the aisle or father-daughter dances, we’ll make sure the party is unforgettable!
Describe yourselves in three words.
Upbeat, fun and romantic.
What do you believe is the key to being a great duo?
You have got to be creative. Our priority is to make sure that people feel as excited about our renditions of the songs as they do about the originals. A great duo is flexible and exciting, even though it’s only two musicians!
Following that, please describe your approach towards working with your potential clients.
We believe that communication is vital. Where possible, we like to get a list from our potential clients of the type of music that they would like to have at their event and we do our best to meet that mark. We respect the time frames given and are flexible with the clients throughout the event to make sure they get what they need out of our entertainment.
What’s the best thing about your job?
We love when guests dance and sing along while we play.
What type of events do you usually play at? What was a recent favourite?
We mainly play weddings. We have played a couple of corporate functions and birthday parties, but we really do enjoy the weddings because it’s such a memorable occasion. It’s also an honour to be a part of anyone’s special day. I always get tearful when we see the groom’s face as he sees his bride for the first time.
What do you think is the most important thing to ensure that Guests and audiences are enjoying themselves and having an absolutely amazing time?
We have got to play music that the guests know, and know well. If we are not playing songs for all ages that they love, it really shows. We will keep reading the crowd until we find the songs that work for them. For us, this is the most vital ingredient to a great party. Additionally, we have got to keep the performance spontaneous and involve the crowd as much as possible.
What genres are most influenced by?
We both love popular songs. Whether it’s 60’s classics by The Beatles, 80’s pop from Blondie, or current pop ranging from Amy Winehouse to Ed Sheeran, we love catchy and upbeat music. We also have a flare for rock-pop sounds by the likes of Mumford and Sons or Coldplay. This always seems to go down well at parties.
Finally, tell us a fun fact about yourselves.
We are both big foodies and huge fans of ‘The Great British Bake Off’.
Shotgun Fakes also appear in ‘Hire a Duo‘.
