You'll know the song in a heartbeat, but the memory of Eighties band Tight Fit might be a little harder to reach.

The trio, consisting of male model Steve Grant, Denise Gyngell and Julie Harris, topped the charts in 1982 with The Lion Sleeps Tonight, famous for its 'o-whim, o-whay' falsetto vocals.

Fast forward 35 years and the band, who were famous for their skimpy jungle attire and honed physiques, have once again dug out their safari suits - and still aren't afraid to show off their assets.

Grant, now 57, got back on stage with Gyngell and Harris to perform at the 80s Smash Hits show at the Plaza in Stockport this weekend - and fans weren't disappointed with the sight of his rippling torso.

Wearing a tight black vest and jeans, the singer, who has sadly lost much of his sight during the ensuing decades, is clearly proud of his muscular body.

His bandmates, both wearing short skirts and plunging tops, even persuaded him to whip off his vest during the performance - much to the glee of those watching.

Grant told Femail: 'We have loved getting back together after 30 years to perform again.

We've been surprised at how pleased many of our original fans have been to sees us again and that they bring their kids and grandkids to our gigs!

What has been particularly great is to be in the driving seat when it comes to what the band does, in comparison with the 80s when our then record label made all the decisions.'

Grant added that his sight is severely impaired due to a medical condition known as retinitis.

He explains: 'I have suffered from a form of retinitis which has led to detached retinas in both eyes and I now have the blindness classification of being registered severely sight impaired.'

TIGHT FIT, LOW PROFILE: WHERE HAVE THEY BEEN FOR THE LAST 35 YEARS?
STEVE GRANT

The former male model focused on musical theatre following the break-up of the band and trod the boards in the West End in Kiss Me Kate and Miss Saigon. When an eye condition, retinitis, led his sight to fail, he headed back to the recording studio. Grant now lives in Spain.

JULIE HARRIS

Harris persistently tried to crack the music industry after leaving Tight Fit. She released singles under the band names Julie and the Jems, Chopper Harris and He, She, Him but never quite soared to the heights of her previous ensemble. Harris, who has three children, has also trained to be a professional chef.

DENISE GYNGELL

Gyngell became Denise Waterman after her marriage to music mogul Pete Waterman. The pretty blonde mother-of-two, who lives in Wandsworth, describes herself in her Twitter bio as a freelance professional presenter and voice over artist. She regularly holds theatre camps for youngsters in Wimbledon.

The band, who split in 1983, reunited for appearances in Europe in 2010 and are clearly enjoying being back on the road.

Steve's twitter feed, @steve_tightfit, is awash with photos from recent performances and supportive messages from fans. A new album, Together, is out now.

Grabbing the number one spot for three weeks in the early Eighties was arguably the singers' career high although all three band members have continued to work in the field.

While Grant trod the boards in the West End in productions of Kiss Me Kate and Miss Saigon, mother-of-three and professional chef Harris, 58, and Gyngell, 55, continued to work in music.

Gyngell became Denise Waterman when she married record guru Pete Waterman.

The couple split in 1999 after eight years of marriage and have two daughters, Toni and Charlie together.
