The Nyawa Quartet are a Leeds based group who explore and draw influence from the musical traditions of Africa, Asia and the Americas. Featuring Mohan Veena, Banjo, Guitars, Upright bass & Percussion, Nyawa's range of instruments from around the globe is indicative of their approach to music. Blending sounds and rhythms from Delhi to the Delta, the band play improvised Indian raags, hypnotic Arabian maqams and afro-cuban grooves.
"They effortlessly transport the audience to a mystical place where Cuban and Bulgarian influences melodically sit side by side. The tent is silent in awe, sitting cross-legged with no shoes on like an assembly at primary school – but with whisky being served at the back"
"Nyawa Quartet were one of the highlights of the programme for Into The Woods this year and a definite rebooking for 2014"
- Lucy Barker , Arts programme director, Into the Woods, Beacons Festival
